MotorHangar Inventory API for car dealers
The Inventory API is what every MotorHangar connector is built on, and you can use it directly from your own website, DMS or script. It is a JSON REST API with one key per dealership and an OpenAPI 3 spec: publish a car under your own stock id, send it again to update it, mark it as sold, and read the buyers who wrote to you.
How it works
In your dealer panel, open API keys and create a key. It starts with mh_ and is shown once.
Send it in the Authorization: Bearer header, never in the URL, and check it with GET /me.
Publish or update a car with PUT /vehicles/{id}, using your own stock id: you get 201 the first time and 200 after that.
For a whole stock, use POST /vehicles/sync (up to 500 cars per call); above that, finish with one POST /vehicles/reconcile.
Read new buyer conversations with GET /leads?since=.
What syncs
- Cars: brand, model, year, version, price, currency, mileage, fuel, transmission, colour, condition, city, description and photos
- Status: importing photos, active, sold or withdrawn
- Leads: the conversation, the car and a link to reply
- Each market's vocabulary with GET /markets/{code}: currencies, fuels, kilometres or miles
- Our brand and model catalog with GET /catalog/brands
Limitations
- Beta: live and documented, not yet used by a dealer in production.
- 120 calls per minute per key; a 429 response tells you how long to wait.
- Brand and model must exist in our catalog. We never invent models.
- No outgoing webhooks yet: poll GET /leads?since= for new leads.
Questions about MotorHangar API
Is the API free?
Yes. Listings are free and so is the API; there is no paid tier.
What stops a bad export from marking all my cars as sold?
Two guards. An empty list is never read as “everything was sold”, and if more than 40% of a source's cars (and at least five) would be marked as sold at once, nothing is marked and you get a 409. Send allow_mass_sold when it is real.
Will my API cars clash with my spreadsheet or plugin cars?
No. Each car carries a source (api, csv, woocommerce, shopify…), and marking missing cars as sold only touches cars of the same source.
Can I import the spec into Postman or an AI agent?
Yes. /api/v1/openapi.json is a complete OpenAPI 3 document with operation ids and response schemas, so Postman, Insomnia, n8n, Make and agent frameworks can read it.
Product names belong to their owners. MotorHangar is not affiliated with or endorsed by them, and none of these integrations is listed in their app stores or marketplaces.
