Sell your car in Zambia

Change of ownership is registered by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA). The seller should notify RTSA of the sale online, and the transfer itself needs a letter of sale, a ZRA tax clearance, a police anti-theft report, an RTSA inspection and Form MVR 1 signed by both parties. Posting on MotorHangar is free and takes about three minutes; you don't need the paperwork to publish.

Step by step

  1. Write a letter of sale Required by law Seller and buyer

RTSA requires a letter of sale (or donation) for a change of ownership. Both parties also need copies of their identity documents (NRC or passport).

  2. Notify RTSA of the change of ownership Required by law

The seller fills in RTSA's online Notification of Vehicle Change of Ownership with the registration number, the buyer's name and ID number, and the date of sale. RTSA warns that failure to notify a change of ownership renders the vehicle impoundable.
