Paso a paso

1. Sign a sales agreement through a lawyer Requerido por ley Vendedor y comprador

   TRA requires a sales agreement for a change of ownership between individuals, together with the lawyer's EFD (electronic fiscal device) receipt, so have the agreement prepared or witnessed by a lawyer.

2. Make sure the buyer has a TIN Requerido por ley Comprador

   The buyer's Tax Identification Number is one of the listed requirements for a change of ownership.

3. Write the application letter Requerido por ley Vendedor y comprador

   An application letter for the change of ownership is submitted with the sales agreement and lawyer's EFD receipt.

4. Submit to TRA and pay the transfer fee Requerido por ley Vendedor y comprador

   Lodge the documents with TRA and pay the motor vehicle transfer fee; tax on transfer is also charged under the Motor Vehicle (Registration and Transfer) Act. The transfer is endorsed on the registration card.

• Under the Act a transfer counts as completed on the date you hand over the vehicle or the date it is endorsed on the registration card, whichever comes first, so register the transfer promptly after delivery.
• If a seller cannot be traced later, TRA requires extra documents (lawyer-endorsed sales agreement and an affidavit of ownership), so the seller should take part in the transfer instead of just signing papers.
