1. Verify the buyer's identity and your ownership Recomendado

   Transportstyrelsen advises checking that the buyer is who they claim to be and that you are the registered owner. Have the latest registration certificate (registreringsbevis) at hand.

2. Check vehicle-related debts Recomendado

   Look up the vehicle's status regarding vehicle-related debts (fordonsrelaterade skulder); the buyer may ask for it. Buyers are warned that unpaid instalment-purchase obligations can mean paying twice.

3. Report the ownership change online in Mina sidor Requerido por ley

   Log in with e-identification (BankID or Mobilt BankID). Both parties must be over 18 and hold a valid Swedish driving licence, whose validity dates and reference numbers you enter, plus the buyer's personal identity number, name and Swedish address. The submission day is registered as the transfer date; reports after the 19:30 weekday processing are registered the next weekday evening.

4. Or post the yellow part 2 of the registration certificate Requerido por ley Vendedor y comprador

   Fill in the latest original registreringsbevis part 2 (yellow) with the transfer date, the buyer's personal or organisation number, name and address, and signatures of both parties, and send it to Transportstyrelsen, 701 81 Örebro. It must arrive within 10 days of the transfer, otherwise the arrival date is registered; both parties share responsibility for sending it.

5. Buyer arranges traffic insurance Requerido por ley Comprador

   If the car is registered for use (påställd), the buyer must have traffic insurance (trafikförsäkring) from the transfer date. The seller's insurance ends automatically once the change is registered, as Transportstyrelsen notifies the insurer.

6. Keep the confirmation Recomendado

   Once registered, a confirmation is sent to your registered address or digital mailbox. Keep it as proof of the transfer.
