Vendez votre voiture à Grèce

The transfer of a private car is registered by the Transport Directorate (Διεύθυνση Μεταφορών) of the Region, which issues a new registration certificate in the buyer's name. Between two private individuals it can be done fully online on gov.gr: the seller starts the request with the buyer's tax number (ΑΦΜ) and the buyer accepts it. Publier sur MotorHangar est gratuit et prend environ trois minutes ; vous n'avez pas besoin des documents pour publier.

Étape par étape

  1. Check the car meets the transfer conditions Requis par la loi

The car must have no unpaid road tax (τέλη κυκλοφορίας), a valid technical inspection certificate (ΚΤΕΟ) unless it is under four years old, no retention-of-title clause less than 7 years old, no blocking remark codes on the registration certificate, and no other pending application. For the online route both parties must be individuals and 100% of the ownership must be transferred.

  2. Get the certificate of no road-tax debt Requis par la loi

The seller can print the certificate of no outstanding road tax (βεβαίωση μη οφειλής τελών κυκλοφορίας) on gov.gr with Taxisnet credentials; it is valid until 31 December of the same year. If there is a debt, it must first be paid at the tax office (ΔΟΥ).

  3. Start the transfer online Requis par la loi

The seller logs into the gov.gr service with Taxisnet credentials (after registering a mobile number in the National Contact Registry, ΕΜΕπ), selects the car, chooses the Regional Transport Directorate and enters the buyer's tax number (ΑΦΜ). The system checks the conditions automatically.

  4. Accept the transaction as buyer Requis par la loi Acheteur

The buyer receives an SMS and an email, logs in, accepts the transaction and states who will collect the new registration certificate. Both parties then receive in their gov.gr mailbox a certificate of submission; with it the buyer can insure and drive the car in Greece for 30 days.

  5. Pay the licence and transfer fees Requis par la loi Acheteur

The vehicle licence fee and the transfer fee are paid into the Region's account at a bank, and the receipt must show the buyer's full name and the registration number. The transfer fee depends on engine size.

Licence fee €75 for passenger cars; transfer fee €30 (up to 400 cc), €45 (401-800 cc), €60 (801-1300 cc), €90 (1301-1600 cc), €120 (1601-1900 cc), €145 (1901-2500 cc), €205 (2501 cc and above). Extra regional charge in the Cyclades.
