Sell your car in Czechia

The change of owner (přepis) is recorded in the Register of Road Vehicles at any municipal office with extended powers (ORP); for a sale the old and new owner apply jointly within 10 working days. The key step is completing the joint application on time, as missing the deadline can be fined up to 50,000 Kč. Posting on MotorHangar is free and takes about three minutes; you don't need the paperwork to publish.

Step by step

  1. Make sure the vehicle has a valid registration check Required by law

The office verifies the validity of the vehicle's registration check (evidenční kontrola) when processing the change of owner, so check it is valid before the transfer.

  2. Optionally prepare the application on Portál dopravy Recommended Seller and buyer

The current owner starts the application on the Transport Portal (Portál dopravy) and gives the new owner the generated code or link; the new owner completes and submits it. The transfer is then finished at the chosen office, at a reduced fee.
