1. Check the vehicle's record in the RUNT Recomendado Comprador

   The RUNT offers a public lookup of vehicles by plate, useful for the buyer to check the car's registration data before closing the deal.

2. Make sure both parties are registered in the RUNT Obrigatório por lei Vendedor e comprador

   The transfer can only be processed once the seller (current owner) and the buyer are registered as persons in the RUNT system.

3. Clear fines and keep SOAT and inspection valid Obrigatório por lei Vendedor e comprador

   The transit authority checks in the RUNT that the car has valid SOAT insurance and technical-mechanical and emissions inspection, and that both buyer and seller are free of traffic fines (paz y salvo). Any lien or court restriction must be lifted, or the lienholder must authorize it to continue with the new owner.

4. Pay vehicle tax, withholding tax and transfer fees Obrigatório por lei Vendedor e comprador

   The authority verifies payment of the withholding tax on the sale (retención en la fuente) and of the vehicle tax, with copies of the receipts, plus the Ministry of Transport, RUNT and local transit-authority fees for the procedure.

5. Sign the sale contract and the request form, with stencils Obrigatório por lei Vendedor e comprador

   Fill in the transit authority's request form (formato de solicitud de trámite) and sign a sale contract that meets civil/commercial law, with the stencils (improntas) of the engine, serial/chassis or VIN numbers attached at the end or on the back.

6. File the transfer at the organismo de tránsito Obrigatório por lei Vendedor e comprador

   Submit everything to the transit authority where the car is registered. It checks the stencils against the RUNT and the licence, records the new owner in the RUNT and issues a new licencia de tránsito in the buyer's name.
