1. Settle all traffic violations and accidents on the car Requerido por ley

   Before transfer registration is applied for, all road traffic violations and traffic accidents involving the vehicle must be dealt with. Otherwise the office will not process the transfer.

   Transfer is refused if the car does not match its file, is under customs supervision, is within one year of its mandatory scrapping age, has been seized or is stolen. If the car is mortgaged or pledged, the old owner, new owner and lender must apply together.

3. Get proof of the sale Requerido por ley Vendedor y comprador

   The new owner must present a certificate proving the transfer of ownership. For a car bought in China the rules name the used-car transaction invoice (二手车交易发票) as the car's proof of origin.

4. Buyer applies for transfer registration within 30 days Requerido por ley Comprador

   Within 30 days of delivery, the new owner presents the car for inspection at the registering vehicle administration office and submits their ID, the proof of transfer, the registration certificate (机动车登记证书) and the driving licence of the vehicle (行驶证). If the periodic inspection has expired, add a safety inspection pass and compulsory traffic insurance (交强险) certificate. The office decides within one working day and issues new plates, licence and inspection mark. Missing the deadline can bring a warning or a fine of up to 200 yuan.

5. If the buyer lives in another area, complete the transfer-in Requerido por ley Comprador

   When the new owner's residence is outside the office's area, the old office records the transfer, takes back the plates and issues a temporary plate valid for 30 days; the owner must register the car at the new area's office within that time. Small and mini passenger cars traded in the destination area can apply for transfer directly at the destination office.

6. Seller can ask to keep the plate number Recomendado

   After a transfer, the former owner may apply to use the old plate number on another car within two years, provided they used it for at least one year and all violations and accidents of the old car are settled.
