The AC condenser on my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross suffered a premature failure due to a critical vehicle design flaw. The lower bumper grille features exceptionally wide gaps placed very low to the ground, leaving the delicate aluminum condenser completely unprotected from routine, foreseeable highway debris. Because the climate control system regulates internal dehumidification, this premature failure directly compromises the vehicle's windshield defrosting and defogging capabilities. During temperature changes and damp conditions, the vehicle is unable to adequately clear the inside glass, severely impairing driver visibility and creating an immediate operating hazard on the road.

In a 2024 Corolla the spiral cable (clock spring) is defective. It controls the airbag, cruise control, horn and more, so it is an important safety mechanism electrical part. Toyota USA is on back order for this part for at least a month, maybe two. This suggests to me that there is a widespread problem with defective Toyota Corolla spiral cables (clock spring) inside the steering wheel. People are driving around with this defective part while waiting for the part to arrive in the US, and will need to pay upwards of 1000 to have the defective part replaced.

A severe, pre-existing life-safety defect and unauthorized structural modification were discovered on my 2024 Toyota Corolla . Following a routine diagnostic check for vehicle pulling, certified Toyota technicians discovered that the vehicle's primary fuel line had been dangerously altered and was held together underneath the chassis by an unsecured wire clothes hanger. The vehicle was immediately grounded as an active fire and explosion hazard. A forensic vehicle inspection by a major insurance carrier (Traveler's) subsequently denied standard repair coverage, formally documenting that the wire-rigged fuel system was a pre-existing mechanical defect resulting from previous work done prior to my purchase of the vehicle from McCluskey Automotive. The selling dealership actively concealed an unroadworthy condition that exposed myself and my minor daughter to a catastrophic vehicle fire.

Subject / Issue: Child car seat caused vehicle seat belt to become permanently jammed Complaint: I am reporting a safety-related issue involving an Evenflo Revolve 360 child car seat. During normal use, the vehicle seat belt became slightly twisted inside the car seat base, and the seat stopped rotating properly. We were then unable to remove the child car seat from the base following the standard removal instructions. While attempting to safely remove the seat, the vehicle seat belt became completely jammed inside the base. The seat belt is now fully immobilized and cannot move in either direction. As a result, the child car seat is permanently stuck in the vehicle, and the seat belt system in the left rear seat is unusable. We had the vehicle inspected at a Toyota service center, and they confirmed that the only way to remove the child seat is to cut and replace the left rear seat belt. The estimated repair cost is approximately $680. This situation has rendered a vehicle safety restraint system inoperable and requires cutting the seat belt to resolve the issue. I am concerned about the safety design and potential risk if this occurs during normal consumer use. Photos of the issue are available and can be provided if needed.

There was light rain and my car kept a safe distance from the car in front of me that was going slower than the speed I had set my cruise control to. Suddenly my car accelerated as if the car in front of me was no longer there. I had to quickly apply the brakes to avoid a collision. I have around 8,000 miles on my car and I had no problems the last time I went on a trip using the adaptive cruise control.

I am filing a safety complaint for my 2024 Toyota Corolla because the infotainment screen intermittently goes black while driving. This is most dangerous when I am using GPS/navigation while driving. The screen has gone black while driving on busy highways at 60+ mph, leaving me without functional navigation. This creates a distraction and safety concern because I suddenly lose directions and may need to look at my phone or troubleshoot the screen while driving. The car has also had recurring phone connectivity issues. Sometimes my phone does not connect through Bluetooth or even when plugged in directly. However, the black screen while driving is the bigger safety issue. I contacted Toyota multiple times. Toyota reference number: #[XXX]. Toyota told me to take the car to the dealership, which I did many times while the vehicle was still under warranty. I took it to two different Toyota dealerships multiple times. They repeatedly said there was no issue because they could not duplicate it. They also blamed Fitbit devices connected to my phone, which did not explain the screen going black while driving. I sent Toyota and the dealerships videos of the issue. However, it is difficult and unsafe to record the screen failure while actively driving. I also contacted Toyota about lemon law concerns, case [XXX]. Toyota denied the claim. The vehicle is now out of warranty, but the screen still occasionally goes black while driving. This issue was reported multiple times during the warranty period and was never resolved. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE 2026-05-19 · NHTSA 11738739

I was driving my 2024 Toyota Corolla SE gas model (with the convenience package) on the interstate in [XXX] during stop-and-go traffic. Traffic had been moving slowly for about 15 minutes, and I had Brake Hold turned on, cruise control was off, Proactive Driving Assist was on. I was behind a semi truck and was moving very slowly, getting ready to stop. I had maybe 3 or 4 car lengths between me and the semi so they could see me in their mirrors. As I was about to stop, the brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor, the car jerked to a stop, and the electronic/emergency parking brake applied on its own. I put the car into Park and then back into Drive, and the problem did not happen again during that drive. There were no warning lights, dash lights, or warning messages before this happened, and there were also no warning lights or dash lights afterward. The issue happened suddenly with no prior symptoms that I noticed. I believe the brake system, Brake Hold system, electronic parking brake system, or a related brake/vehicle control system malfunctioned. This put my safety and the safety of others at risk because the car unexpectedly stopped abruptly in interstate traffic. Since I was in heavy stop-and-go traffic and other vehicles, there was a risk of being rear-ended, causing a crash, or becoming disabled in traffic. I took the vehicle to a Toyota dealership after the incident. They were not able to reproduce the problem, but they did find stored code C14FE14. They told me they checked the brake system, cleared the code, tested the steering angle sensor connector, and said everything tested within specification. They also performed a multipoint inspection and said the battery, brake pads, and other inspected items tested well. To my knowledge, the vehicle has only been inspected by the Toyota dealership/service center. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE 2026-04-23 · NHTSA 11733329

Vehicle: 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross (gas‑powered, non‑hybrid) System/Component: Electrical System → Start/Stop System → Driver Information Display Issue Type: Design Defect / Driver Distraction I am reporting a recurring issue with my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross (gas‑powered, not a hybrid). The vehicle frequently displays a “Battery Charging” message on the dashboard whenever I come to a stop at traffic lights or stop signs. This message appears even when the vehicle is operating normally and there is no actual charging system problem. According to Toyota documentation and owner discussions, this message is triggered when the auto start/stop system decides not to shut off the engine due to the 12‑volt battery’s state of charge. However, the message is unnecessary, cannot be disabled, and provides no actionable information to the driver. It functions as a non‑critical status notification but is presented with the same prominence as a warning. This creates a driver distraction, as the message repeatedly draws attention away from the road for a condition that is not a fault, not a safety issue, and not something the driver can address. The message appears frequently during normal driving and cannot be suppressed. I believe this is a design flaw in Toyota’s start/stop implementation and dashboard messaging. The system should not display a warning‑style message for normal operating behavior, especially when it cannot be corrected by the driver. I am requesting that NHTSA log this issue as a potential driver‑distraction concern and encourage Toyota to revise the software to eliminate or suppress this unnecessary message.

Incredibly dangerous situation! Driving down I-15 in SLC when my Sunroof EXPLODED! 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, 22k miles, purchased new and sunroof came with the car. Sounded like a gunshot. Luckily, no one was injured by flying glass and kept the car stable. I could see how someone reacting to this sound might slam on their brakes or swerve the car or worse the driver could be cut by falling glass if the slider were open. My "damage" is having to pay for a new roof. Toyota dealer tried to say that something hit my car and it wasn't a manufacturer defect. Right. Tell me how a rock is going to get past my large Thule cargo box to drop a hole like this one! I filed a claim with State Farm but the part is special and must be ordered. UP until yesterday I have never had any issues with the sunroof. Such a racquet. Toyota gets to keep selling replacement sunroofs and the insurance companies and consumers are the ones paying for their poor workmanship.

DEFECT: Steering wheel fails to fully return to center after turns, consistently stopping 1/2-1 inch off-center. Minor steering adjustments stick and don't self-correct. Pronounced binding zone near center prevents smooth return. SYMPTOMS: After curves, wheel returns 80% but stops visibly off-center requiring manual correction. Minor lane adjustments stick and require counter-correction. Constant manual steering correction causes driver fatigue. Progressive worsening since purchase. SAFETY: Incomplete return at highway speeds causes drift. Sticking divides attention from hazards. Emergency maneuvers require manual straightening during critical response time. SERVICE: February 2026 - McGovern Toyota technician documented "VEHICLE DID NOT RETURN OR SELF CENTER" but Toyota corporate refused repair claiming "normal characteristic." Had 6+ alignments with no improvement. Recent alignment caused binding to flip sides, proving internal mechanical binding not alignment issue. RELATED: Toyota issued CSP 22TE02/TSB T-SB-0028-22 (2022) for 2018 Camry with identical "reduced return to center" caused by intermediate shaft binding. My 2024 Corolla has same defect Toyota acknowledged in 2018 models but refuses to repair. REQUEST: Investigate if Toyota intermediate shaft defect extends to 2024 Corolla and whether industry-wide EPS binding represents systemic safety issue. Toyota confirmed defect in writing but denies repair.

The 2024 Toyota Corolla needs to be added to the list of vehicles currently being investigated for transmission/engine issues. The vehicle in question is currently exhibiting transmission anomalies consistent with those observed in several other vehicles under review, specifically: slipping, jerking, surging forward, hesitation to accelerate from a complete stop, loss of power, droning sound at low speed, odd knocking noise/vibration during idle, unresponsive gear changes, shuddering upon vehicle shutdown, and decreased fuel efficiency. The owner has incurred expenses exceeding $2,000 for rental vehicles and diagnostic services in an effort to resolve these persistent issues. However, as of January 21, 2026, Toyota has not acknowledged the existence of a problem, asserting that these conditions are within normal operating parameters and that the vehicle is performing as intended. A local mechanic has advised the owner that Toyota will not diagnose the issue, but they are likely to offer a post-warranty adjustment should the transmission ultimately fail. It has become increasingly apparent that Toyota is not conducting a thorough investigation into these matters and expects the customer to bear the expense beyond the scope of the standard warranty. Beyond the immediate safety concerns for the owner, there is a significant risk of collision should the vehicle experience a loss of control or erratic behavior. Thank you for your time and assistance in investigating this matter.

Subject: Vehicle safety complaint — dashboard/windshield reflection severely impairing visibility on 2014 Toyota Corolla (VIN: [XXX] ) To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to report a serious safety issue with my 2014 Toyota Corolla, VIN [XXX] . Under certain daylight conditions, the dashboard (or a component of it) reflects sharply on the windshield, producing a glare so intense that it significantly impairs my ability to see the road ahead. Vehicle details: Make: Toyota Model: Corolla Year: 2014 VIN: [XXX] Approx. current mileage: [insert mileage] Problem description: - At specific times of day — when sun angle, interior lighting, and windshield geometry combine — the dashboard reflection becomes very pronounced. - The reflected dashboard elements (vents, panels, interior contours) appear on the windshield glass and overlap the driver’s forward view. - This glare regularly blocks or obscures pedestrians, other vehicles, road signs, or hazards ahead. - The issue is not cosmetic; it directly reduces visibility and increases risk while driving. - The vehicle remains stock — no aftermarket modifications have been made to dashboard or windshield that could cause this reflection. Impact on safety: - I frequently struggle to see clearly under these lighting conditions, compromising my ability to react properly to traffic, obstacles, or sudden changes — especially when approaching intersections or dealing with glare. - This defect endangers not only me and my passengers, but also other road users: drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Request: I request that National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) review this issue for the 2014 Toyota Corolla (and possibly other model years) to assess whether dashboard materials, interior design, or windshield geometry create a widespread visibility defect. The vehicle’s multimedia screen intermittently displays a message prompting to “enter 6-digit PIN.” This message frame appears randomly and covers the center of the screen, including while the vehicle is in motion. When this occurs, the navigation display becomes blocked, creating a potential safety hazard as the driver’s view of navigation instructions is obstructed. To clear the message, the driver must manually press the “X” icon and then reselect the map display. This action requires driver attention and physical interaction with the screen while driving, increasing the risk of distraction and compromising safe vehicle operation. The issue occurs unpredictably—sometimes after several days, sometimes within minutes, or even immediately after pressing X to close the message. This recurring behavior significantly limits the use of navigation and other vehicle functions, effectively impairing normal and safe vehicle operation. Toyota dealer advised contacting the Brand Engagement Center. The Brand Engagement Center referred back to the dealer, suggesting the issue may be “mechanical.” The dealer reports that the vehicle is functioning normally. This creates a closed loop in which neither the dealer nor Brand Engagement Center accepts responsibility for resolving the issue. As a result, the safety concern remains unaddressed. Toyota should investigate and provide a definitive resolution to prevent the multimedia system from displaying the PIN prompt while the vehicle is in motion.

I am reporting an ongoing safety issue involving the Skid Control ECU and loss of power break recall on my 2024 Toyota corolla hybrid. The first time, my vehicle experienced loss of power brake assist and displayed a “Hybrid System Malfunction” message on screen. I towed my car to Toyota, confirmed it was related to the Skid Control ECU recall and repaired it under the recall at no cost, they did a software update. The second time, the exact same problem reoccurred. I had the vehicle towed again to a Toyota dealership, but this time, they refused to perform diagnostics unless I paid out of pocket for a 12-volt battery replacement. The dealership stated they cannot confirm if the issue is recall-related until diagnostics are complete, but they also refuse to complete diagnostics without me paying first. My vehicle is currently undrivable and unsafe, and I rely on it for daily transportation and work. So they made my pay for this 12v battery to do the diagnostics and now they tell me it is not recall related but one of the relays not working, the repair will be cover under warrant but i had to pay for battery and rental cars . I believe Toyota is in violation of its obligations under 49 U.S.C. §30120, which requires manufacturers to correct recall-related safety defects free of charge. This issue leaves me without a vehicle and unable to verify that the recall has been properly resolved. I have opened a case with toyota brand engagement. I am requesting that NHTSA review this case and ensure that Toyota complies with recall repair requirements so my vehicle can be safely diagnosed and repaired without charge.

During a routine transmission fluid service on a 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid, I discovered that the transmission model (PA10) is completely unlabeled and cannot be identified anywhere under the hood, in the owner’s manual, or on any visible tag. The only label is buried behind the firewall and not reasonably accessible to consumers or technicians. As a result, I initially attempted to service the wrong fluid port because Toyota provides no visible or clear identification of the transmission model or fill/drain points. Additionally, the factory-installed transmission drain and fill bolts were tightened with extreme torque well beyond normal service specifications, requiring application of high heat and excessive force to loosen. This resulted in personal injury and risk of property damage. The combination of (1) inaccessible transmission identification, (2) inadequate service guidance, and (3) extreme bolt torque creates a foreseeable safety hazard to vehicle owners or technicians attempting basic maintenance. Toyota’s official service documentation (Toyota Technical Information System, “TIS”) that clarifies the correct fill ports is paywalled and not included with the vehicle or manual, making it impossible for consumers to safely perform essential maintenance without paying daily access fees. This lack of accessible labeling and over-torqued components presents an avoidable risk of physical injury, vehicle damage, and mis-servicing. I believe Toyota should be required to provide visible transmission identification and safe torque specifications for consumer maintenance.

Instead of documenting the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) and providing a report, the dealer cleared the fault code and recalibrated the system without my authorization, effectively erasing critical evidence of the malfunction. The invoice confirms this. Inspections by others: The vehicle was inspected only by the Toyota dealer. It has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives, but I have legal counsel and am preserving the evidence for further independent inspection. My vehicle will jerk into the left lane of the road when lane keeping assistance is activated. It appears isolated only to situations when I am travelling on roads that were recently repaved and lines haven't been painted yet. However, these roads are equipped with consistent reflective indicators marking the center of the road because these roads remain unpainted for months. My car was parked in my driveway on am 80 degree afternoon. I went into the car to get something. When I closed the driver door, the entire back window shattered. I am the only driver of the vehicle and there were no issues with the window prior to this- no cracks, no incidents, no rocks on the road.. The only indication there was any issue was condensation on the inside of the back window two days before this happened. I thought this was unusual, but it did not seem like something to call the dealer about. I took the car to IRA Toyota in Saco, Maine. They informed me there was no way to 'prove' a defect, as there was no longer a window to inspect. They suggested I call my insurance and lie about the incident, stating that 'nobody would believe a window just blew out' and they were just trying to help me get the repair covered by my insurance. I know there is currently a class-action suit against Honda for this same issue, and found over 20 shared instances in Toyotas (of various models) from 2021,2022, 2023, and 2024. I understand glass is not included in warranties, and I think this only makes sense for manufacturers. The fact that a window could spontaneously shatter at any moment is certainly a safety issue and should be covered under warranties or some other level of accountability. When my window combusted, all of the glass fell into the back window and back seat. If any kids or animals had been in the back seat (as they almost always are), they would have been covered in glass. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Heard subtle clicking sounds from engine. Looked this up as I never heard of this. Toyota says you MUST STOP DRIVING ASAP, assuming you "can" drive. You can LOOSE CONTROL of the car. There are many things that can cause the light to come on. Dealer "says" they never heard of this. My car had to be towed. Mechanic found nothing wrong and reset computer modules. I got my car back after 3 days. Dealer says NO GUARANTEE it won't happen again WITHOUT warning. So; anywhere, anytime, my car will just stop driving? HOW IS THIS SAFE? Internet searches show it's NOT UNCOMMON. Toyota makes it hard to file a complaint.

I was involved in a car accident on Aug 11, 2025, everything that was supposed to be fixed in the recall did not operate during my crash. I reconfirmed with the dealership that they did the recall repair and they again said yes but if they did then the repair completely failed. There was no emergency braking available, the car skid a long distance, no airbags deployed even though all sensors in the front were engaged and collision center confirmed they should have gone off. Vehicle is currently at collision center and is available to be inspected.

This is my fourth service visit for the same unresolved safety issue on my 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. The problem involves a cracked fuel line and fuel vapor leak in the same area as recall 24TC08 (Fuel Tank Filler Clamp and Vapor Leak Detection). The dealership initially failed to detect this during recall work and later claimed “rodent damage” after two prior visits. I have since used a professional-grade MultiRAE Lite gas detector and documented VOC (volatile organic compounds) levels up to 123 ppm inside the vehicle cabin with the windows up. These readings indicate hazardous fuel vapor and exhaust gas intrusion, which pose serious health and fire risks. I have driven over 200 miles in these conditions), exposing myself to harmful fumes. The dealership has failed to properly repair the issue, and Toyota has not resolved the safety hazard despite repeated service attempts.

Car has broke down a total of 4 times since I have gotten it from Toyota back in December of 2023. I have a dash-cam now that has footage of the car breaking down. Toyota fails to acknowledge my concerns and comes up with excuses and tells me to wait until it happens more frequently. I would love to have this car inspected, but as Toyota has stated they cannot get the issue to repeat. My safety for others and myself feel uneasy with the whole ordeal as it happens at the most random times. The first few times my car has broke down, the steering wheel locked up and forced itself all the way to the left on its own causing me to hit a curb and median. Manual control over the steering wheel was not possible. Luckily with this occurring both times I was going a slow speed. The other two times I had full control of the wheel but my engine would stop and the engine stopped message would appear on my dash screen. Vehicle has been inspected by the dealership 4 times with no luck on repeating the issue. Breaking down presented a dash message of engine stopped, abs system stopped, power steering stopped and would quickly cycle through warnings and shutdown.

On July 2, 2025, while driving at approximately 8:35 PM my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross suddenly and unexpectedly came to a complete stop. The vehicle's Pre-Collision System (PCS) activated without any obstacle, pedestrian, or vehicle in front of me. I was decelerating at about 15–20 mph in clear weather and road conditions. The abrupt stop was extremely dangerous and could have caused a serious rear-end collision had another car been behind me. This created a significant safety risk to me and to others. I had already completed the Toyota recall related to the pre-collision/braking system weeks prior. Despite this, the malfunction still occurred. The issue has not yet been confirmed or reproduced by a dealer, but I have contacted Toyota and scheduled a full inspection. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. There were no warning lamps, messages, or error alerts before the incident. The car simply braked suddenly without warning. Out of fear for my safety, I have since disabled the PCS system. I am now afraid to drive the car, especially at higher speeds, and have requested that Toyota escalate the matter for further resolution or potential buyback.

January of 2025 the vehicle was put in drive and the vehicle shut down. "Power steering low egine stopped" message appeared. I Put the vehicle in park and started the car back up. I took it to the dealership. The battery was low they charged it and released it back. The vehicle was brought back shortly after that due to the vehicle being put in park and shutting down displaying the same "low power steering. Egine stopped" message. Along with "EPB stopped Incompletely". Brought it back in and the battery was low and they replaced it. A few months later the vehicle was brought in due to multiple braking events either when pulling forward with no acceleration (nothing was around the vehicle) or putting the vehicle into reverse with no acceleration (nothing behind the vehicle). During these events the car made a loud grinding sound and displayed BRAKE across the dash. The 3rd time at the dealership was due to the car shutting down when put into park and braking when reversing out of a parking spot. The code "epb stopped Incompletely" and the BRAKE message appeared. The dealership checked for codes but the car didn't have any saved. They can't recreate it. They had a feild tech come out but I'm unsure of what was found because they haven't released it. As of June 22, 2025 I was driving and the car braked on me while going 40 mph. Vehicle Information: * Make: Toyota * Model: Corolla Hybrid AWD * Model Year: 2024 * Current Mileage: [14,000] * Mileage When Problem Noticed: ~8,000-9,000 miles Incident Description: My 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD has a severe steering defect. After a right turn, the steering wheel consistently fails to return to center, remaining 5-15 degrees (up to 20 for sharp turns) off-center to the right. It does not self-correct. Occasionally, this also occurs after left turns, but less frequently. The vehicle requires constant, active manual correction to stay straight. If I release the wheel, the car can drift right, posing a significant collision risk. The steering feels "floaty" and lacks the expected resistance to return to center. This issue began abruptly around 8,000-9,000 miles. Multiple dealership visits and alignment checks have not resolved it. No prior accidents or modifications. The Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) system functions smoothly, keeping the car centered. However, immediately after disengaging LTA, the manual steering defect reappears, indicating an underlying mechanical problem, not an electronic one. Safety Concern: This defect creates a serious safety hazard. It demands constant driver attention and effort, leading to distraction and fatigue. This compromises directional stability and significantly increases accident risk, as the car will veer off course if not continuously corrected. I urge NHTSA to investigate this defect. Similar "sticky steering" or "poor return to center" issues are reported in other modern vehicles, and Toyota itself issued CSP 22TE02 for a related "slower to return to center" issue in 2018 Camry models, proving this is a known type of defect, not normal operation.

Dear Better Business Bureau, I am filing a formal complaint against Toyota Motor North America regarding a serious and unresolved safety defect in my 2024 Toyota Corolla LE (VIN [XXX]). The vehicle experienced two incidents of sudden unintended acceleration—the second, on [XXX], resulted in a collision. Despite my repeated efforts to resolve the issue, Toyota has failed to respond adequately or provide critical diagnostic data. In both incidents ([XXX] and [XXX]), while stopped at a red light, the vehicle suddenly surged forward despite my foot being on the brake. On [XXX] this caused a collision. My vehicle has remained undrivable since. Toyota conducted a diagnostic inspection on May 29 under Case #[XXX]. I’ve repeatedly requested access to the raw data from this inspection to understand the defect, but Toyota has not responded. Emails to the assigned case manager, Ms. Cynthia Ware, have gone unanswered. When I was directed to reply to a support email, it bounced back as a “do-not-reply” address, redirecting me to a login page which falsely claimed I had no active cases. This created an endless communication loop. Toyota’s lack of transparency and support is unacceptable—especially given the severity of the issue and the fact that the vehicle is still under warranty. I am requesting: Immediate release of the raw diagnostic data from the May 29 inspection A prompt resolution, including full repair, replacement, or buyback Clear, responsive communication from an authorized representative This is not only a financial burden, but a serious safety risk. I respectfully request BBB’s assistance in securing a resolution and holding Toyota accountable. Thank you for your time.

On January 10, 2025, I was driving my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross and entered a parking lot to park. I started a three-point turn to park head-in and was slowly turning the steering wheel to the right. I was about to switch from the accelerator to the brake when the car suddenly accelerated rapidly. It felt like the front of the car lifted, and I lost control, colliding with a parked car to the left of the space. The distance between the two cars was about 5 feet, and the sudden acceleration lasted only 1-2 seconds. My car has a proximity warning and automatic emergency braking system, (Pre-Collision System) but neither activated, and the airbags did not deploy. My husband, in the passenger seat, heard a loud engine noise when the car surge forward unexpectedly. After the crash, I parked the car, checked for any objects near the pedals but found nothing. The other car had rear bumper damage, and mine had significant front-right damage, including a severely worn tire. I reported the incident to the police, exchanged information with the other driver, and called a tow truck. I later suspected a malfunction in the throttle or safety systems, such as the proximity warning or braking systems, which failed to activate. No prior warning lights or issues were present. The failure of these systems increased the risk to both myself and others in the parking lot. The cause of the malfunction has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle’s onboard diagnostic (OBD) system could be checked for errors, as a potential cause of the sudden acceleration but was told that it is difficult to diagnose such issues and was told that it was slim to find anything even if I did a diagnostic check. Given the car’s advanced systems, I believe these components should be thoroughly inspected to prevent future incidents.
