Legend Nissan service states at 13,623 miles my vehicle needs rear brake pads & rotors resurfaced. They initially stated they will pay for parts, but I will have to pay for labor. I have been driving for over 40 years & never had a vehicle need brakes & rotors at 13,623 miles. This is a manufacturer defect which should warrant a recall. After doing my due diligence I discovered there are numerous customer complaints, & class action lawsuits regarding this make/model (Nissan Pathfinder). I notified Nissan Consumer Affairs & was told by a gentleman named “Smith” Nissan will only pay for the parts & I would be responsible for labor. I disagree with their decision that this is normal wear & tear!

This was the first of FIVE failtures, on other complaints, I had put FOUR however, my daughter reminded me coming back from [XXX] in XXX that it happened on XXX. I have been trying to work with Nissan for two years on this. I am sharing you, we absolutely are afraid to take this vehicle back, it's not safe for anyone to possess as it will result in loss of life. Nissan needs to own up to this failure and repurcase this and use it for tests to figure out why their main communication system is not relating. I was out in the middle of nowhere and scared to death that it was going to continue to die on me, I stopped finally at a Pilot and a nice employee at Pilot who just got off work helped me. He disconnected the battery twice, we let it sit, then it started and cleared. I had taken a time stamped photo and sent to my husband for guidance. We took the vehicle to Nissan the tech said they could not duplicate the error, this was the first of a two year struggle with trying to work with Nissan and figure out what was wrong. After this last XXX incident Complaint XXX, XXX and I am entering two more where I have either video, photos, or both. I have been gathering witness statements. I am a XXX in the field for 34 years and my husband a XXX and also a XXX. We are smart people who happened to buy a LEMON of a vehicle that is not safe for it to be on the road. Looking from this time, my family is so lucky that none of us got killed on the side of the road, on the Interstate itself, or simply driving to and from our home in the mountains here in [XXX]. We are just terrified to be in this vehicle. Also, the saddest thing I want noted, is these are mostly HIGHEWAY miles back and forth to my daughters house in [XXX]. Not even in town miles and the vehicle has done these things. Please please help us hold Nissan accountable. This vehicle is a danger to human life. Thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

THIS is the third MAJOR safety that I have had at this point, with FOUR in total and that isn't the little things, that is the MAJOR SAFETY events where we've been terrified to drive the vehicle. I had washed my car in the car wash and after exiting about a mile down the street, the vehicle made a jar and all the lights on the dash started throwing malfunction errors like a Christmas tree again. I was stalled at the busy intersection. I had total loss of power and it was 98 outside by myself . I had two gentlemen help me try to get into neutral to get out of the busy intersection. We finally were able to get to the Walmart parking lot across the street. Called Nissan, the service team asked to disconnect battery etc and see, which we had already done, and then we did it again. I was terrified to drive to the dealership with it and when I did, AGAIN, NIssan responded with they cannot duplicate the codes, showing no codes, even after I showed them the photos. This vehicle is unsafe for anyone to drive it. Even if Nissan buys this back on a repurchase and then puts it on the road, someone or multiple fatalities will happen with this vehicle. WE believe their main communication system doesn't communicate . The Nissan app itself throws me ABS codes for weeks and they show no ABS codes on a separate incident. We have a vehicle that we are terrified to take on the road and can depend on. Nissan fails to acknowledge they have an issue with their safety systems. Also, while driving down the road about a week before this, the driver's door latch was just clicking up and down and literally trying to open the door going down the highway at 70 MPH. Another safety thing that happens continuously, the passenger safety indicators in the back seat, constantly error out. Nissan's response, they are aware of this one, just disable them. Well, I don't have children, however, seriously that is their advice if a child dies?

On September 13, 2026, my 2024 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum 4WD experienced a sudden and severe electronic/system malfunction while I was driving on I-75 near the Jellico Mountains in KY into TN. I was traveling at highway speed in the fast lane and was passing multiple semi-trucks when the malfunction occurred. Because I was in mountainous terrain, traveling at highway speed, and surrounded by heavy commercial traffic, the situation created an immediate and serious safety concern. We could have been killed. The malfunction involved multiple vehicle systems and warning indicators appearing or becoming unavailable at approximately the same time. . The vehicle appeared to experience a cascade of electronic/system errors and power failure. This is the FOURTH occurrence this has happened to us and Nissan says they cannot duplicate the errors or what happened. After the fist time, I knew as a retired insurance agent, to document and take photos which I did. I have the last three. Based on the nature of the simultaneous failures, I am concerned about a possible malfunction involving the vehicle's electronic control system, control modules, communication network (CAN), power supply/voltage regulation, or software. I am specifically concerned that a failure in communication between the vehicle's primary electronic control modules could cause multiple systems to report faults simultaneously. We are begging NHTSA to investigate these Pathfinders. We have lost confidence that the vehicle is safe, especially in the mountains. We live on a mountain and we are terrified to drive it ever again. I truly believe this vehicle if put back on the road, would end up with fatalities. The vehicle was towed to the Nissan Dealership and remains in Nissan's possession. Nissan is sending a head engineer on October 1st to look at the vehicle. We do not want this vehicle returned to us or even sold to anyone, as it is not a safe vehicle to be on the road. Please please help us.

Premature wear on my rear brakes. Front brakes when checked were at a level 7 out of 10 while the rear brakes at 24,000 miles were down to a 1 per one company and a 3 per Alpine Nissan. I was told it is recommended I do not drive the vehicle without getting the brakes replaced and the problem was due to my driving and all brakes wear different. If that were the case my front brakes would have gone first or been close to the same measurement. It was deemed unsafe to drive after 24,000 miles. I have 2 small children and at this point do not feel like this is a safe vehicle for me and my family to continue driving nor do I feel I need to take on the financial responsibility of replacing my rear brakes every 1-2 years due to a vehicle malfunction. If I had to slam on my brakes at any point my vehicle would skid which made me realize the significance of this issue and safety driving on the road. The only warning sign I had was a squeaking sound for about a week and I took it in immediately and found my break pads were down to a 1 measurement.

SERVICE BRAKES 2026-09-11 · NHTSA 11763746

I lease a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum with approximately 19,000 miles. During a recent inspection at a Nissan dealership, I was informed that the rear brake pads were worn down to approximately 1.5 mm and required immediate replacement. At the same inspection, the front brake pads still measured approximately 6.5 mm. The vehicle has been driven under normal conditions and has not been used for towing or other unusually demanding braking conditions. I am concerned about the extremely premature and disproportionate wear of the rear brakes. At approximately 19,000 miles, the rear pads are nearly completely worn while the front pads still have substantial material remaining. The Nissan dealer recommended replacement of the rear brake pads and rotors but did not cover the repair under warranty or provide goodwill assistance because brake pads are considered wear items. I believe the unusually rapid rear brake wear may indicate an issue with the rear braking system rather than normal brake-pad wear. Premature rear brake wear could create a safety concern if owners are unaware that their rear pads are becoming severely worn at relatively low mileage. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can document the issue and determine whether similar premature rear brake wear is occurring in other 2024 Nissan Pathfinders.

SERVICE BRAKES 2026-09-02 · NHTSA 11761540

I am submitting this complaint regarding a safety concern involving my 2024 Nissan Pathfinder, which has approximately 19,000 miles on the vehicle. The rear brake pads were found to be excessively worn and required replacement at only 19,000 miles. I consider this premature brake-pad wear to be a significant safety concern given the relatively low mileage and age of the vehicle. The braking system is a critical safety component, and I would not expect the rear brake pads on a relatively new 2024 vehicle with only 19,000 miles to require replacement due to excessive wear. Premature or abnormal brake-pad wear could potentially reduce braking performance, increase stopping distances, cause uneven braking, damage other brake components, or create an unsafe condition if the driver is unaware of the extent of the wear. I am concerned that this may not be an isolated maintenance issue but could potentially indicate a defect or problem with the vehicle's braking system, including the rear brake components, brake calipers, electronic parking brake system, or another component that may be causing abnormal or accelerated brake-pad wear. I am requesting that this complaint be documented and investigated to determine whether other 2024 Nissan Pathfinder owners have experienced similar premature rear brake-pad wear and whether there is a defect or safety-related issue affecting the rear braking system. Vehicle: 2024 Nissan Pathfinder Mileage: Approximately 19,000 miles Safety Component: Rear braking system/rear brake pads Issue: Premature/excessive rear brake-pad wear requiring replacement at approximately 19,000 miles. I believe this issue warrants investigation because brake-system reliability is directly related to vehicle safety, and premature wear at such low mileage is concerning for a relatively new vehicle.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER 2026-07-16 · NHTSA 11750878

The defect involves the outside side mirrors and the reverse-tilt function. When the vehicle is shifted into Reverse, a mirror normally tilts downward as designed. However, after shifting back into Drive or Park, the mirror intermittently fails to return to its previously stored driving position. Sometimes it returns correctly, sometimes it returns only partway, and sometimes it does not return at all. When the failure occurs, the mirror remains pointed downward and significantly reduces rearward and adjacent-lane visibility until I manually readjust it. This creates a safety risk because the mirror may appear to have returned to its normal position when it has not, leaving the driver with impaired visibility after completing a reverse maneuver. The problem is intermittent and has been reported to and evaluated by Nissan dealerships. The vehicle and mirror system remain available for inspection upon request. There are no warning lamps or dashboard messages associated with the failure. The primary symptom is the mirror’s failure to consistently return to its stored driving position. Because of the inconsistent operation, I have disabled the reverse-tilt feature to prevent the mirror from unexpectedly remaining in an unsafe downward position. However, disabling the feature eliminates the additional downward visibility Nissan designed it to provide while reversing. This is not a satisfactory resolution. I am forced to choose between the risk of impaired rearward visibility after reversing and the loss of the enhanced visibility intended to assist during reverse maneuvers. The system does not operate as designed and creates an avoidable visibility and safety concern.

There are 2 antifreeze lines going to the back of the vehicle, they are to cool the 3rd row seats using air conditioning. Both lines were incorrectly designed so they have a repetitive failure rate of 100%. Both lines failed in March of 2025 and were replaced by Serra Nissan of Traverse City, MI. Both lines failed again and were confirmed by the dealer yesterday on 7-1-26. The first failure occurred at 8,401 miles. The second failure at 16,742. Anti freeze is spraying on the brakes of the rear passenger area, a major safety issue. Nissan does not want to spend the money to redesign the failed part design so they reinstall the same failed antifreeze lines with every repair. There is a 5 MONTH WAIT for new parts to arrive due to the massive quantity of failures. No warning lights appear during these repetitive failures. The failures are visible, you can see the antifreeze leaks all around the rear brake. And the air conditioning stops functioning in the car. Serra Nissan is very upset that Nissan Inc. is refusing to correct the failed design of the part. So the failures will occur forever.

The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder. While the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that coolant was on the garage floor. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a coolant line leak with coolant going back to the third-row seat, and the leak was near the passenger’s side rear tire. The contact was informed that the coolant lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred 15 months later. The contact stated that during the failure, the vehicle was being driven at an undisclosed speed, and the A/C unit failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed, and determined that the coolant lines were leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 8,000.

WHEELS 2026-06-03 · NHTSA 11741792

I am reporting premature and abnormal tire wear on two consecutive Nissan Pathfinder vehicles (2022 and 2024 models). In both cases, tires required replacement at low mileage (approximately 20,000–25,000 miles) despite normal driving and proper maintenance. My 2022 Pathfinder also experienced brake-related issues, which raises additional concern about potential underlying defects. The repeated pattern across multiple vehicles suggests a possible defect involving alignment, suspension, or braking systems. Premature tire wear presents a safety concern, as it can reduce traction, increase stopping distance, and raise the risk of tire failure or blowout, particularly at highway speeds. A Nissan dealership has confirmed the abnormal tire wear and recommended replacement, and previously acknowledged there may be known issues contributing to this condition. However, the issue continues to be classified as “normal wear and tear,” and no corrective action has been taken. There were no warning lights or messages prior to the issue; it was identified during routine service inspection. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection upon request. I am requesting an investigation into whether Nissan Pathfinder vehicles have a defect contributing to premature tire wear and associated safety risks.

Hi ! I just purchased the 2024 Nissan pathfinder SL on March 13th , 2026 . Three days later I noticed a slight vibration to the car . I was told it was the mount they’d replace both mounts . Get the car from getting the mounts replaced , & when I went to leave with the “ repaired “ the car sounded horrible while in Reverse. It was a loud sound more than just a vibration. I immediately went into the dealer and they said they’d replace the other two mounts . Fast forward to that appointment, I get a call it needs a new motor . I’m not sure the mileage on the vehicle but it’s less than 46k . The mechanic shop in Macon , Ga has had the car two weeks. They replaced the mount close to the transmission with a OM mount , said the previous one was a defective mount . Now they have no clue what is wrong with the car . This car is so “ new “ to be having these issues. So now I’m waiting to hear what the next steps are on this car . Such a beautiful vehicle truly ! I just don’t know if this mount / transmission is going cause me issues nonstop within the car .

My Pathfinder has 19798 miles and I was informed that the brake pads are 3mm or less need replaced and the rotor resurfaced. The front brakes are at 7mm at the same mileage. I do not tow anything and use for city and highway driving. My complaint is that at this rate I will have to change my rear brakes twice as often and have them inspected more often. The cost for brake replacement at twice the rate of front brakes is 2x. I am concerned that there is a design flaw that can lead to rear brakes failing if I do not have them inspected twice as often as the front brake wear. Typically the front brakes handle 60-70% of the breaking force due to weight transfer. If the rear brake pads are wearing out before the front brake pads, and the rotors need resurfaced it seems that heat buildup due to increased brake wear is affecting the rotors. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Issues with alternator, oil leakage, and currently the transmission. After sitting idle for 10 to 15 minutes transmission will not shift out of first gear. It has become dangerous to drive the vehicle due to not being able to properly accelerate resulting in the possibility of being hit if driver pulls into traffic. The vehicle has been taken to local Nissan dealership several times without the issue being resolved. Currently, the dealership has had the vehicle for over 30 days and still has no solution for fixing the issue. Vehicle has less than 13,000 miles on it. When the transmission problem began the vehicle had less than 8,000 miles on it. Other issues with the vehicle began when vehicle was only a few months old and had less than 4,000 miles.

The contact stated that due to the low mileage, the brake pads and rotor should not need to be replaced. The contact stated that there were no issues with the brakes prior to the visit. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that there was a class action lawsuit pending against Nissan for the 2022 and 2023 Nissan Pathfinders due to premature brake pad wear. The class action suit stated that numerous owners of similar vehicles had complained that the brake pads were prematurely worn between 20,000 - 30,000 miles, as opposed to the average 50,000-60,000 mile range. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the failure was caused by normal wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

The component that failed/malfunctioned is the instrument cluster and it is available for inspection upon request. The instrument cluster which displays the RPMs, miles, gas gauge, vehicle temperature, speedometer and other pertinent information while operating the vehicle has started to go out. If the entire panel goes completely out there is no way to see any of this information which could also lead to odometer fraud as well as other notifications that are displayed on there going unnoticed. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership to see what would need to be done. They stated the entire instrument cluster would need to be replaced. I feel like this should not already be happening on a not even 2 year old car. There was no warning or any other symptoms of the problem prior to this happening in February of 2026. The cost to replace the entire panel would be over $1200 and after speaking with one of the service technicians at the dealership he stated that this was not the first vehicle he has had in with the same issue. Nissan needs to address this issue because if you can't even get a new vehicle to last 2 years or 45,000 miles before it has a malfunction like this then what are we doing.

Vehicle: 2024 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek 4WD VIN: [XXX] Mileage at failure: approximately 26,000 miles Component: Service brakes Description: Rear brake pads completely worn at 26,000 miles. Front brake pads remain in good condition with normal wear. Vehicle is driven under normal conditions — no towing, no off-road use, no aggressive driving. Rear brake pad part number D4060-6TA5B is the same part used across 2022-2025 Pathfinders. This pad cross-references to the Nissan Altima, a sedan weighing approximately 3,400 lbs. The 2024 Pathfinder Rock Creek weighs over 4,600 lbs and is rated to tow 6,000 lbs. The pad is not engineered for this vehicle’s weight or intended use. The fact that front brakes show normal wear while rears are completely gone proves this is not a driving behavior issue. The rear brake system is receiving disproportionate braking force relative to the capacity of the pads installed. This is a known pattern across the 2022-2024 Pathfinder lineup. A class action lawsuit has been filed: [XXX] v. Nissan North America, Inc., Case No. 3:25-cv-01183, [XXX] , filed 10/13/2025. NHTSA has received multiple prior complaints documenting identical rear brake failure on 2022-2024 Pathfinders at mileages as low as 12,000 miles. Dealer (Peters Nissan of Nashua, [XXX] ) declined warranty repair. Nissan Consumer Affairs notified, Case #XXX. Nissan classifies this as “normal wear and tear” despite failure occurring well within the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty period and despite front brakes showing no comparable wear. This is a safety defect. Premature rear brake failure without warning reduces stopping ability and puts the driver, passengers, and other motorists at risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

It’s impossible to duplicate so I’m not sure taking it into the shop would make a difference.

SERVICE BRAKES 2026-03-10 · NHTSA 11723251

I own/lease a Nissan Pathfinder that currently has approximately 27,000 miles. At approximately 19,000 miles, the dealership resurfaced the brake rotors. The service department stated only that “sometimes it happens” and did not provide a diagnosis or explanation for the premature wear. Now, at approximately 27,000 miles, the dealership has informed me that the rear brake rotors and pads must be replaced due to excessive wear. This appears to be premature brake component failure on a relatively new vehicle. The vehicle is driven primarily on highways and is not used for towing or heavy loads. The early rotor resurfacing followed by rotor and pad replacement shortly afterward raises concerns about potential premature brake system wear or a possible defect in the braking system. Because brakes are a critical safety component, I am submitting this report so the issue can be reviewed to determine whether similar premature brake wear is occurring on other vehicles of this model.

I own a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder with approximately 24,000 miles. During a recent inspection, the rear brake pads were found to be completely worn while the front brake pads still have significant remaining life. This uneven wear pattern suggests the rear braking system may be performing a disproportionate amount of braking or may not be fully releasing. Premature rear brake wear at this mileage appears abnormal for a vehicle of this type and raises concerns about possible issues with brake force distribution, rear calipers, or electronic brake system operation. The dealership stated that the rear brake wear is “normal” and declined to repair it under warranty or goodwill. However, premature brake wear can present a safety concern if the braking system is not functioning as intended. I am submitting this complaint so the issue can be reviewed to determine whether other vehicles of the same model may experience similar premature rear brake wear or potential braking system defects.
