   The seller needs the Certificato di Proprietà (paper or digital) and the carta di circolazione, or the Documento Unico (DU) if the car already has one, plus a valid ID. The buyer needs a valid ID and the Tessera sanitaria (not needed with a valid electronic ID card, CIE); non-EU residents also need a valid permesso di soggiorno. If the documents were lost or stolen, a police report or sworn declaration replaces them.

2. Sign the sale deed and have the seller's signature authenticated Obrigatório por lei

   The seller signs a sale declaration (atto di vendita) and the signature must be authenticated by an STA (ACI/PRA office, Motorizzazione Civile, Automobile Club delegation or vehicle paperwork agency), a municipal office, or a notary. At an STA the deed can be drawn up digitally and signed with an advanced electronic signature; the seller must show a valid ID.

   Free at the STA of ACI/PRA or Motorizzazione offices (the transfer must then be requested at the same time); €16 stamp duty for a digital deed at an STA; municipal offices charge administrative fees and notaries charge a fee (amounts not stated by ACI).

3. Request the transfer and the new Documento Unico within 60 days Obrigatório por lei Comprador

   Within 60 days of the authentication, the buyer (or someone they authorise) submits the request at an STA using the Istanza unificata form, with the sale deed and the vehicle documents. An online appointment is required. If the signature was authenticated at a PRA STA, the DU must be requested right away in the same visit.

4. Pay the provincial transfer tax (IPT) Obrigatório por lei Comprador

   The IPT (Imposta Provinciale di Trascrizione) is paid with the transfer. It depends on the type of vehicle and on the buyer's province of residence: the base tariff for cars is €150.81 up to 53 kW and €3.5119 per kW above 53 kW, and most provinces add a surcharge of up to 30%.
